Vignesh Krish
Vignesh, an ardent backpacker from the mysterious lands of India. I am a proud Physics nerd and a Potterhead. My love lies in meeting new people and cooking for them. My day starts with computers in the morning and end with telescope by night. Love to be a teacher one day! I am currently working on exoplanet characterization and my dream is to make humans a interplanetary species.

Sustainable Habitat On Martian Environment (S.HOME)
The concept, “Sustainable Habitat On Martian Environment (S.HOME)” was designed and developed in Blue Marble Institute of Science, USA by a team of inter-disciplinary researchers. S.HOME is a closed loop interdependent ecological system that can use the potential of Mars without leaving a negative footprint on Mars. This regenerative system can produce food, revitalize atmosphere and recycle water for a crew of six astronauts for a period of six hundred days. It has two main components, the greenhouse and the habitat. It also has an independent emergency, module which can operate for further three hundred days. Three of the seven modules can operate completely with solar photovoltaic cells deployed on top of the habitat’s modules. The most efficient salt-based thorium reactors are used to generate the additional needs. The salt by-products from the nuclear reactors act additionally as coolants, apart being used as catalysts in removal of excess carbon dioxide. The innovative concepts of S.HOME can be a standard design on which the futuristic Mars habitats can develop.
